Abu Dhabi Airports announced the opening of a dedicated Sensory Space at Zayed International Airport (AUH) in collaboration with Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO), and SEDRA Foundation. Designed to provide a calming and supportive environment for passengers with sensory sensitivities, further strengthening AUH's position as a leader in passenger well-being and accessibility. This announcement comes on the heels of AUH receiving the Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI), a significant achievement recognising the airport's commitment to creating a world-class, inclusive travel experience for all.

The ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation, a globally recognised benchmark of excellence, highlights AUH's dedication to surpassing the highest standards of accessibility for passengers with diverse needs. This achievement signifies a comprehensive evaluation of AUH's facilities, services, and procedures, validating its ongoing efforts to providing a seamless and inclusive travel experience for passengers of all abilities. This includes not only those with visible disabilities, but also those with hidden disabilities and sensory processing challenges.

Designed as a haven for passengers with sensory sensitivities, the Sensory Space provides a quiet and serene environment featuring designated areas tailored for both children and adults. The space is equipped with ambient lighting, comfortable seating, and sensory-friendly resources.

Beyond the Sensory Space, Zayed International Airport provides a comprehensive range of facilities and services designed to ensure a comfortable and convenient experience for all travellers. From complimentary baby strollers for families with young children, to dedicated check-in counters and specialised assistance for People of Determination, AUH strives to create a smooth and stress-free journey for everyone. As part of its commitment to travellers, the airport proudly supports the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Initiative, recognising and assisting passengers with hidden disabilities who may require additional support. Furthermore, it has recently opened a dedicated Service Animal and Pet Relief Area with a comfortable space for service animals and pets.


AUH invests in continuous staff training, empowering team members to provide sensitive and effective assistance to passengers with diverse needs. This commitment is further exemplified by the Sensory Space, managed by specially trained Airport Operations staff in partnership with the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination. Additionally, the SEDRA Foundation team have tested the space to ensure it provides a comfortable and welcoming experience for all visitors.
